Scholarship Program

Each year Bon Homme Yankton Electric offers one $1,000 and two $500 academic scholarships. The $1,000 scholarship is funded by Basin Electric Power Cooperative of Bismarck, ND. The additional $500 scholarships are funded by Bon Homme Yankton Electric. These scholarships are designed to recognize and encourage the academic and community achievements of the students in our area.

Applicants must be a dependent of an active electric member and must be students enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate or graduate course of study at an accredited, two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school.

2024 Scholarship Winners

$1,000 Basin Electric Scholarship

Jacob Cuka will graduate from Bon Homme High School in May. Jacob is active in Football, Basketball, Track and Field, FFA, Student Council and Band. Some of Jacob's achievements are Missouri Valley All-Conference for football, Academic All-State for football, Bon Homme High School Lineman of the Year, National Honor Society, Student Council Treasurer, Salutatorian and Merit roll/ A Honor Roll. He plans to attend South Dakota State University in the fall of 2024 and major in Business Economics and minor in Education. His long term career plans are to attain a Business Management position, teaching certificate to teach high school business or math, and coach football. 

Jacob’s parents are John and Nancy Cuka.

$500 Bon Homme Yankton Electric Scholarship

Patience will graduate from Scotland High School in May. Patience is active in Band, Jazz Band, Chorus, Jazz Choir, Piano, FFA, Trap Shoot, Quiz Bowl, Play, Student Council, and Oral Interpretation. Some of Patience's achievements are placing 1st at the State FFA contest in Parliamentary Procedure, being voted class President, National Honor Society inductee, and on the Honor Roll. She plans to attend Concordia University Nebraska and pursue a degree in Exercise Science. After completion to pursue a doctorate in Physical Therapy in hopes to become a Physical Therapist and come back and work locally to benefit rural heath care. 

Patience’s parents are Clint and Rachael Starwalt.

$500 Bon Homme Yankton Electric Scholarship

Emy graduated from Bon Homme High School in May of 2023. Emy was active in Bon Homme County 4-H, Volleyball, Oral Interpretation, One Act Play, and Spring Play. Emy is currently a freshman at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD. Emy is working towards graduating from Augustana University in the fall of 2026 with a Bachelor's Degree in Communication Disorders. After graduation continue education at South Dakota State University to obtain a Master's Degree in Communication Disorders and find work as a Speech/Language Pathologist. 

Emy’s parents are Mathew and Katie Hauck.
