Scholarship Program

Each year Bon Homme Yankton Electric offers one $1,000 and two $500 academic scholarships. The $1,000 scholarship is funded by Basin Electric Power Cooperative of Bismarck, ND. The additional $500 scholarships are funded by Bon Homme Yankton Electric. These scholarships are designed to recognize and encourage the academic and community achievements of the students in our area.

Applicants must be a dependent of an active electric member and must be students enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate or graduate course of study at an accredited, two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school.

2025 Scholarship Winners

$1,000 Basin Electric Scholarship

Bon Homme Yankton Electric Awards $1,000 Basin Scholarship to Jackson Kaul. He will graduate from Bon Homme High School in May. Jackson is active in Football, Wrestling, Baseball, Band, FFA, and National Honor Society. Some of Jackson's achievements are American Legion Citizenship Award, Missouri Valley All-Conference for football, Academic All-Sate for football, Bon Homme Academic Excellence Award, National Honor Society, FFA Greenhand Degree, Chapter Degree. and State Degree. He plans to attend South Dakota School of Mines in the fall of 2025 and pursue a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. His long term career plans are to stay in South Dakota, preferably near Springfield, with numerous job opportunities in Yankton and Sioux Falls. Being close to home is extremely important to him as being close to his relatives is a top priority. Jackson's parents are Billy and Michelle Kaul of Springfield. 

$500 Bon Homme Yankton Electric Scholarship

Bon Homme Yankton Electric Awards $500 Scholarship to Peyton Hellmann. She will graduate from Bon Homme High School in May. Peyton is active in National Honor Society, Student Council, Band, Track, Cross Country and Wrestling. Some of Peyton's achievements are 2024 SDWCA Girl's Wrestler of the Year, Mitchell Republics Girl's Wrestler of the Year in 2023 and 2024, Junior Women's Nationals All-American and a member of the U17 World Team. She plans to attend college for a Pre-Physical Therapy program and continue her wrestling career. After completing her bachelor's degree, she further plans on attending a master's program in Physical Therapy. Peyton's parents are Ben and Sara Hellmann of Tabor. 

$500 Bon Homme Yankton Electric Scholarship

Bon Homme Yankton Electric Awards $500 Scholarship to Kaeli Wallinga. She will graduate from Avon High School in May. Kaeli is active in Quiz Bowl, Volleyball, Track, HOSA, Mathletes, National Honor Society, Student Council, Basketball, Softball, Football Statistician, Oral Interpretation, Choir and Band. She plans to attend University of Nebraska-Lincoln or Augustana University in Sioux Falls. She plans to attend college and major in Biology/Athletic Training and minor in Physics or Mathematics. Her long term career plans are to either be an athletic trainer for a professional sports team or become and athletic trainer for a smaller high school like the one she grew up attending. Kaeli's parents are Melvin and Danielle Wallinga of Springfield.
